OVER THE YEARS

Van Veen Gerbera is a real family business. In 1962 Willem van Veen started to grow lettuce and tomatoes at the Haantje in Rijswijk. 13 years later he decided to specialise in large-flowering gerberas, after which time this colourful flower became closely associated with Van Veen Gerbera.

Almost 40 years after the business was established, both sons wanted to take over the nursery. The two brothers worked well together and the Gebroeders van Veen company was founded in 2000. Two years later, the brothers united two adjacent greenhouses and formed one new company. At the same time, they made the switch to mini gerbera cultivation.

We still grow the small-flowering gerbera today, with character. Since 2018 the business has two modern locations: Hofzichtlaan and Kasteelweg in De Lier and the Haantje location is no longer in use. We see a bright future at these two locations.

At Van Veen Gerbera we grow mini gerberas with character: with courage and ambition and a little bit of tenacity. We deliver high quality mini gerberas in large volumes from our two locations in De Lier, at Hofzichtlaan and Kasteelweg, to supply our customers throughout the year. We don’t do this alone, but with a close and reliable team, each with its own specialisation. We share knowledge among ourselves, and with partners, consultants and external parties. We strive to achieve the very best results. Only then can we market our gerberas in a way that reflects our values, honestly and transparently.

Van Veen Gerbera has been part of Colours of Nature since it’s foundation: a unique Dutch cooperative of mini gerbera growers that supply the retail sector in Europe. Through passion, cooperation and sharing knowledge, we can provide a high-quality and colourful product and take good care of our customers. The success of Colours of Nature is based on the solid foundation of this unique collaboration, specialties per grower, quality, service, flexibility and speed.

Colours of Nature is the largest mini gerbera supplier in the Netherlands. Each grower within the collaboration focuses on two or three varieties. This ensures efficient cultivation and makes it possible to deliver large, flexible volumes of gerberas from a sparkling colour palette.
